Radon is the second cause of lung cancer according to WHO

Radon is a gas and therein lies its real danger, because it can enter our respiratory tract when inhaled, settling in our tissues. But it is not radon itself that damages our health, but its descendants. When radon is formed from radium through decay, since it has a very short life (3.8 days), it decays inside us to give rise to its descendants, while alpha particles are emitted that ionize our cells and make them cancerous.
